Google’s Market Share Keeps Growing

22.06.2010

Experian Hitwise, a leading competitive intelligence company, just published its Search Market Share report. As can be expected Google is still the most popular among the top three search engines and is even the only search engine company that gained market share in May 2010.

According to the report Google accounted for 72.17% of all U.S. searches, carried out in the four weeks ending May 29, 2010. This presents a 1% increase as compared with the previous month. Yahoo! Search, Bing and Ask on the other part, managed to grab 14.43%, 9.23% and 2.14% of all searches in the U.S., respectively. Both Yahoo and Bing are suffering a loss in market share compared with their previous month’s attainment by -3% and -2%, respectively.

Another interesting point brought up in the Hitwise report is that Google delivered the most visits to the Automotive, Shopping, Health and Travel categories year over year. Its upstream traffic especially grew for the Automotive and Travel categories.

Yahoo! Search gained upstream traffic to the Automotive and Shopping categories, Bing saw a triple-digit increase in Health and Shopping search verticals.

In the meanwhile, two-word terms comprised the majority of searches, amounting to 23.34% of all queries. Three-word key phrases made up 20.51%.
