Google Releases Commerce Search 2.0

On June 17th Google released an upgrade to its Commerce Search product which is believed by the company to be big enough to guarantee a version change. Available now for U.S. and UK retailers only, there is a lot of new stuff going on inside Google Commerce Search 2.0 to power retail online stores with Google’s search technology.

“To help retail sites get ready for the summer shopping season, today we’re launching Google Commerce Search 2.0 for retailers in the United States and United Kingdom.

The new version of Google Commerce Search provides a better experience online for shoppers and greater control – with immediate ROI – for retailers,” wrote Senior Product Manager at Google, Nitin Mangtani.
He added then: “Google Commerce Search, first launched a little over six months ago, is an enterprise-grade website search solution hosted in Google’s cloud and designed specifically for online retailers”.

Commerce Search 2.0 comes with a full merchandising dashboard, offering more control over promotions, ranking rules and custom product filtering. It also includes a query auto-completion feature, as well as new spelling features to help out shoppers in finding what they want.

Considering all the product’s enhancements, it stands a fair chance to compete with Microsoft Fast, Endeca and Vivisimo.

Google Commerce Search is a paid service. In order to appeal to smaller businesses Google has cut its initial price virtually in half. So now if you’re an online retailer you may license Commerce Search for $25,000 per year.
